My doggy has snowflakes in his hair?

In other words, dandruff. He's got it bad, sometimes I just find large pieces and little bits while I'm petting him or just sitting in his fur, and sometimes it's more like powder completely overpowering his fur and making it look like he took a bath in dust.

Would it be worth it to just give him a bath? Or are there other, better methods?

Take him to the vet to get something for him. My friend's Golden Retriever had the same problem and it makes him smell too. The cause for his dog is that the dog has allergies and when they go outside for a dog they encounter it every day. It could also be a food allergy. One of the ingredients in your dog's food.

The first thing I would look into would be allergies. But if you wanted to give him a bath, I would use an oatmeal or medicated shampoo. If you do that make sure to let the shampoo sit for 5 minutes. Good luck.

give him a bath and try to find some sort of dandruff shampoo especially for dogs maybe try calling your vet before you pay a **** load for a single visit when he would probaly say the same thing he would say on the phone

What kind of food is her eating? That would be something you should look at. He might need a better quality food from the Vet or Pet Store I use Hill's Science Diet for my animals, Eukanuba is a good food too. Talk to the Vet or the Clerk at the Pet Store. A bath would not hurt but use a dandruff shampoo for dogs, again you can find it in the places above.

a bath will help. have a good conditioner for his fur too. his skin is flakeing because it is dry. start giving him a teaspoon of veg oil in his food everyday or fish oil pills daily so his skin will start improving.my husky gets like this and with the oil his skin has improved. it takes a few weeks but it helps. best of luck.

brush him with a soft brush

feed him a dog food with amino acids and fish (a good one is eagle pack HOLISTIC Anchovy, Sardine %26amp; Salmon Meal Formula..

if you do get eagle pack make sure to get the holistic; and if you need help finding a good dog food email me- at least if you don't know what what animal by-products, corn, digest, etc are. i can try to help you. please do NOT feed any purina foods, iams, dog chows, even nutro, SCIENCE DIET IS TERRIBLE, etc..)

adding a little fish oil to his food will help also

Nah a bath is the last thing you should do.. You should keep him brushed. You should feed a good quality kibble, you can add Omega 3 oils to his diet.. Bathing a dog removes the protective oils from the coat, drying them out.. Causing coat and skin problems.. Don't bath unless he NEEDS it.
