How safe is the Makati area? take 2?

I'm ethnic Filipino borned and raised in the UK, I got a German girlfriend and I'm planning on taking her to Manila for a visit. We looked it up and decided to stay at the Manila Peninsula.

Now, I know how dangerous it is for everybody in the Philippines. I don't mind snatchings and being robbed, I'm worried about kidnappings and corrupt cops.

I'm not really concerned for myself as I can blend in the crowd easily with my dark skin (unless I start trying to speak Filipino). I'm concerned about my girlfriend, who happens to be caucasian, 25 years old, fiery blonde hair and a hot piece of ***. In other words, she would stick out like a sore thumb when mixed with Filipinos.

My question is... how safe is it really in Makati? Does the area have better security since thay have all those classy hotels and malls there? Is it even safe walking on the sidewalk around 9-10pm?

Just Makati, we're not planning on visiting Malate, Binondo, Buendia or any of those tourist unfirendly spots.

I usually walk around Makati pass 10pm right after meetings. I chance upon pretty caucasians possibly working with the BPOs scattered all over Makati. They walk as if they're taking a stroll at midday and it seems to be alright. Passersby actually don't mind them.

If you would take very extra precaution. I will be wary about the side streets around Manila Peninsula since people seeing you coming in and out would think you're loaded and you're just visiting tourists. If you have to get back to the hotel rather late, just take a cab and disembark at the hotel lobby. Although you don't have to do that 90% of the time, I'm just following your over protectiveness.

Greenbelt is streaming with foreigners so I doubt if you'll stand out in the crowd there. Anyway, just don't carry on a chitchat with a stranger on a dark corner and you're ok. You have identified Makati as a tourist friendly spot cut above the rest, and that's just it. Now don't let your worrying spoil your vacation.

it's safe to walk around that area at 9-10pm.. that place is well lit but you'll just have to be extra cautious..

it's pretty safe in makati. just don't go out by yourself and count your money along streets. also if it is possible avoid streets without street lamps. 9-10pm is still a busy hour in makati. Makati city is one of the call center district in the philippines.so expect a lot of young professionals to be walking with you that timme.

Between 9-10:00 is still safe in Makati. A lot of zombies walk around 10-12, they are very hungry aound that time. Also, a lot of friendly women walk along Makati ave during that time. They may be very inquisitive and ask from time time wether you're "in" for a

"gimick" or not. Since you are already with someone, you may say "no thanks", and just walk away. . . Okay, the zombie part is not true.
