i have a friend who will pick at her hair she has dry scalp or dandriff anyway she will pull a piece out of her hair and like hold it between her fingers like she is keeping it for something. and then the other day she did it and put it on her pants like just laid it there like it was a prize or something.. this really grosses me out plus its embarrasing when we are out in public how do i tell her to stop w/o causing a big fight or her being upset? or should i just let it go? and do nothing?
This is kind of gross but i need an answer on what to do about it.?
This is in no way a diagnosis, but your friend may have a disorder called Trichotillomania. It is an OCD spectrum that causes people to uncontrollably pull out their hair (not just on their heads). Watch her carefully, and if you notice a significant loss in hair, ask her why she does it and suggest she see someone. As for something that just bothers you, you could ask her why she does it. It may be just a nervous thing like biting your nails. She may not even realize she's doing it. You can't really stop her, but you can bring it to her attention. If she knows other people notice, she may stop.

I'd tell her this bothers you...they say honesty is the best policy

Well, if it's really bothering you, while she is doing it, just exclaim in a fooling around tone "What are you doing???"
Or you could just let it go, we all are weird like that..

Tell her how you feel. If she gets upset over your honesty she really isn't a very good friend.

I'm surprised someone hasn't hurt her feeling.being out in the public..you really must be a good friend. But ,someone who doesn't know her or care for her feeling is going to hurt her feelings sounds like she doesn't have a clue.

Be honest but kind. You could say, "You're a great friend but it bothers me when you pick at your scalp." Picking at her scalp can make it a lot worse. You could also mention that too.
