How safe is Makati? the 3rd and final time I ask this...?

I'm ethnic Filipino borned and raised in the UK, I got a German girlfriend and I'm planning on taking her to Manila for a visit. We looked it up and decided to stay at the Manila Peninsula.

Now, I know how dangerous it is for everybody in the Philippines. I don't mind snatchings and being robbed, I'm worried about kidnappings and corrupt cops.

I'm not really concerned for myself as I can blend in the crowd easily with my dark skin (unless I start trying to speak Filipino). I'm concerned about my girlfriend, who happens to be caucasian, 25 years old, fiery blonde hair and a hot piece of ***. In other words, she would stick out like a sore thumb when mixed with Filipinos.

My question is... how safe is it really in Makati? Does the area have better security since thay have all those classy hotels and malls there? Is it even safe walking on the sidewalk around 9-10pm?

Just Makati, we're not planning on visiting Malate, Binondo, Buendia or any of those tourist hostile spots.

I am an Indian and had been to Manila last summer. I stayed at the Manila Peninsula and it is a fabulous place. It is in the heart of Makati City right in middle of the shopping district.. So i would suggest you watch your wallet else your girlfriend might just empty it out.. there is so much to shop.. besides makati is as safe as being at bond street in london... so just chill and enjoy the warm filipino hospitality....

A word of caution though.. after midnight at the rear end of the Pen you would run into prostitutes and pimps once in a while... be carefull.. most of them are not even women.. but transvestites....

not sure about makati but what your worried about happens pretty much in any country you go to, as tourists the 2 of you have to be cautious. If you feel your girl friend might be in danger, then why go there in the first place?

MAKATI IS A BIG CITY, VERY BUSY, LOTS OF TRAFFIC...IT IS SOUTH OF MANILA, IT IS ALSO A BUSINESS AREA, LOTS OF HOTEL, RESTAURANTS AND OTHER NIGHT LIFE PLACES, KIDNAPPING CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY....IF YOU PLAN JUST TO STAY IN MAKATI...AND NOT VENTURE OUTSIDE OF THE AREA...I SAY..YOU ARE PRETTY SAFE...BUT NOT GUARANTEED....MAYBE YOU ARE SAFER THERE IN MAKATI THAN ANY OTHER CITY...BY THE WAY..I WAS BORN IN MAKATI...NOW RESIDING IN CALIFORNIA.....YOUR GF WILL REALLY STAND OUT....JUST DONT WALK AROUND WITH LOTS OF JEWELRY AND DISPLAY OF EXTRAVAGANCE WHEN YOU BUY OR GO TO SOME CLUBS ...

Greetings. Makati is a very pretty safe place to visit in the Philippines. I do suggest to avoid going to the southern most islands. I have been there 4 times already and I have not encountered any problems whatsoever. It is a great place to go for shopping. I have stayed in the Makati Shangri-la and I think your hotel is right next to it so I know for sure that all the shops are within walking distance. You will perspire like crazy if only for a few blocks. Enjoy.

There are so many police in makati. Its really nice and upscale. I am not phillipino, i never really felt treatened in the phils or in manilla at all. I think you hear all the stories but once you get there you will feel very comfortable and not even be nervous. As with anyplace, dont flash expensive stuff and be wary of strangers coming over and talking to you. Otherwise enjoy.

Dude, I'm telling you its just the same city you would see. Dont be fooled by the advisory, I am not saying that Makati is a 0 crime rate city, my point is that anywhere in this world is not a free crime, you could even be killed at your own house. But as a necessary precaution that a MAN should always consider is to be cautious and aware of what he is doing. It is important that you secure all your valuables within your sight and control, to avoid temptations from theft or robbers. Dont fool the locals, they will surely beat the hell out of you (just kidding). Filipinos are the most hospitable people in the world. Just be nice.

I've been to Manila Peninsula a couple of times but never checked in only to meet some foreign clients and to my surprise they are more curious and eager to know more about the Philippine culture and tradition rather than be alarmed of the advisory.

They said that its common to received such advisory but if you often travel you'll get used to it. Crimes, terorist act, ect. happens not all the time and not at only one place. This is not a place of terorism (america, europe are more prone to terorism because of racism).

There's nothing more I could tell you but to see the rest for yourself. We are Human and not Terorist or Animal!

You will be staying in a particularly safe place in Makati, so don't worry.

I wouldn't suggest walking in the sidewalks of DESERTED areas by 9-10pm. Since you'll be staying in Manila Pen which is a stone's throw from the malls, there will be lots of people up until store closing hours.

If your having 2nd thought on going to Makati why dont you visit Subic Bay it's a secluded area with guards 24 hours a day %26amp; 7 days a week on entry and exit of the bay, your going to enjoy nature and sea's. Here's the link......

First of all i would like to guarantee you that makati is more safe than anywhere else in manila,except greenhill,san juan.I went to manila 3 times and i am from USA,when i arrived manila with my girl friend and she is a white girl do model for l'oreal brand,we stay in hotel in makati and it was great,we enjoy all of it and i can tell you that manila,makati everywhere you go there will b ea lot of security guard with shotgun and weapon to protect citizen so i feel very safe.bring your german hot *** girl to makati and enjoy the beauty of asia dude!!!!!!!!!
