Rose hair tarantula crazy habits.. please help!?

i have a cool set up for my spider. a cave and two dishes that i put his quencher water source in, and its all snowy desert like. today i watched him carry a ball of chewed up cricket discard out of his cave to the other side of the tank, like he was basically taking the trash out. then he went to his water dish and grabbed a huge chuck of his source (its actually like a bluegel that rest on and drink), so he took a piece out of one dish and carried it to the other. then walked back and got another piece and took it to the other corner of the tank. he did this a few times. any one have any insight on the matter?

also i do have a heat lamp that is centered on top of the tank. i think it may created so much heat it evaporates the water source, maybe he is tryin to take it out of the heat so it would last longer.. if so, how cool is that???? i have yet to turn on the light since.. maybe i can test it..

Umm, he can't drink quencher water source and is throwing it out...

Secondly, he's a rose hair.. He's from one of the driest spots on earth.. So, while he should have a water dish for water, you probably will rarely see him drink..

I know a lot of pet stores sell quencher and sponges for providing water to tarantulas but those are absolutely not recommended.. Sure, a cricket will run into it's water bowl and drown, but, a tarantula won't.. The Hysterocrates gigas (Cameroon Red Baboon) has even been documented to hunt for fish in shallow water!

He also doesn't need a heat lamp.. You could very well be cooking him.. Where Grammastola rosea comes from, it can get hot in the day, but very cold at night.. Whatever temperature your house is, is perfect for a rosea so long as it isn't like below 45 farenheit..

Here is a great caresheet on them put together by people who raise and breed tarantulas..

Please read through that... Most pet stores only carry a couple tarantulas now and then and don't bother to do their research on their proper care.. The pet store by me has theirs die all the time due to dehydration cause they insist on giving very water dependent species like Avicularia quencher and sponges they can't drink from.. Granted, a rose hair can live a very long time without food or water, but, it still should be able to get a real drink if it wants one and be a comfortable temperature..

PS, I don't blame you here.. You probably figured the guy in the pet store was an expert and he may even have a couple tarantulas of his own.. Hopefully you'll read through that though..

Grammastola are really cool though and known for their quirky temperaments.. When mine was younger, he used to build all kinds of ramps in his container.. lol.. Enjoy them, I have 45 of my own and absolutely love them..
