Keep hair color from fading???

I just recently got highlights and lowlights. I want to keep the blonde pieces light and bright (I hate when they get brassy!!) but I also love the rich, dark color of the lowlights and want to try to keep it from fading...

Any suggestions on how to maintain them both so they look keep the "freshly dyed" look??

redken isn't actually colour safe, as it suggests.

your biggest enemy is sulfates, which if you read almost every shampoo ingredient bottle at the drugstore, you'll find it's the 2nd ingredient!

you must try pureology products. they're 100% sulfate-free. http://www.pureology.com

sulfates are salts, and you can just imagine what salt does for your hair! it'll strip the colour right out.

another, more affordable option is sexy hair concepts soy protein shampoos and conditioners. soy is wonderful for the hair, and these are also sulfate-free.

you've spent so much money on your hair, though, why settle for a shampoo that won't hold up? pureology is an investment, but it'll last you forever if you use it correctly! you never need to glob it on. try it!

try color extending shampoos, like redken, which is a very good brand recommended by most fashion magazines that will keep the color in your hair. the redken conditioner works well too.

matrix makes a new color-enchancning shampoo, conditioner and color-enchanicing foam for blonde, brown and reds. they work great.! also, matrix essentials makes so silver, which is a purple shampoo that restores the blonde and takes out brassiness. both these products are great. i am blonde too and people are always asking me if i re-colored my hair because it looks so fresh. hope this helps - you could ask ur hairdresser or use an online site.

Avoid the brassy look with purple shampoo, looks scary but keeps the blonde beautiful and wont harm the chocolate tones either. Try to rinse with cool water it helps seal the cuticle and prevents color fading. Most hair color lines offer excellent color fading shampoos also...I recommend Pureology costly but worth it!
