Hair straightner on air plane?

no it cannot go in your carry-on. double bag it in a zip lock bag and put it in your suitcase.

You should be able to bring it on the plane. Your carry on bags have to make it through a security screening anyway, go to www.tsa.gov for a complete list of permitted items

Hair straighteners are not prohibited in your carry-on, and neither are musical instruments.

But a word of advice, if your mom won't let you check your bag, don't travel with very many liquids or gels. TSA restricted traveling with liquids and gels last September and limited people to only having one quart-sized bag of liquids per passenger... and in your quart sized bag, you aren't allowed to have anything that's over 3.4 ounces in container size. This means stuff like toothpaste, hair spray, shampoo, lip gloss, liquid foundation, etc.

Look at TSA's prohibited items list at http://www.tsa.gov I hope this helps. I never travel without checking my bags anymore.
