Have you noticed...?

Have you ever noticed that most people who ask for opinions on what sort of dog they should get, all have pretty much the same expectations - small, cute, cheap, non-shedding, etc?

Small is understandable, as is cute, but a cheap, healthy dog? I don't think that's very likely. And non-shedding? Some of the most wonderful dogs are horrific shedders, and pretty much all dogs shed to some extent.

In my opinion, anyway, having a dog means accepting everything that comes with it - and that includes muddy pawprints everywhere, dog hair on every piece of clothing, time spent attempting to teach a dog how to 'sit' or 'heel' when they would much rather go and chase the cat across the road.

Does anyone agree with me on this?

Have you noticed...?

That is one of the reasons why there are so many unwanted dogs these days! Everyone wants a perfect, non-shedding- cheap, easy, housetrained at birth dog, then when some BYb or pet shop tells them that the pup they are selling them is all that, they get the poor thing home and it's a normal dog, they dump it on a shelter.

Sad really!

PS:puppymummy, you MUST own a sighthound! My Afghans are all like that!

Have you noticed...?

I agree with you.

No outfit is complete without dog hair on it.

Have you noticed...?

I totally agree... owning and caring for a dog is WAY beyond these shallow people! Some of the CUTEST breeds are also heavy-shedders! People want everything "customized" these days... I won't even get started on the over-breeding of mixes!

Have you noticed...?

Absolutley...... there is no such thing as a cheap free dog..... shots, vet bills and what if you want to go on vacation... boarding fees.......... Animals are never cheap....

Have you noticed...?

oh my gosh!!

YESSSS!!! THAT IS COMPLETLEY CORRECT!!

RIGHT ON!!

Thats like, exactly on the point. womans best friend, is womans best friend.

Great job.

:)

Have you noticed...?

Lol, yea, I agree, everyone is all about "simple" these days, they don't want to put time into their dogs, they would much rather have a professional train their dog, but I think that is the fun, bonding part of having a new dog. They also don't want their "$300 silk sweater" to get dog hair on it. Most people now-a-days just buy dogs for show, which is truely a shame.

Have you noticed...?

The thing that makes me laugh most is when people suggest goldendoodle/labradoodle/anythingdoodle for their non-shedding qualities. Every doodle I've met, especially the large dogs, have a HORRID coat. They turn into a tangly mess instantly, they have coats full of twigs and sticks that will not brush or wash out, and they get dirty extremely easily.

Have you noticed...?

I def. Agree

Have you noticed...?

yes

Have you noticed...?

Totally agree

My clothes have more hair on them than my dogs!!!!!

It is a bit embarrassing sometimes though when we have visitors and as they stand up to leave you see a load of dog hairs down their back

Does anyone else have a dog with the attitude "You threw the ball YOU go and get it" lol

Have you noticed...?

oh definatly agree. what home wouldn't be complete without dog fur on the sofa, floor, clothing, run across the floors while still wet, bark at the vacuum, jump on family and friends, try to steal cookies from daddy. come on dogs are dogs and that's what they love to do, and that's why WE serious pet owners love them. did i mention barking at nothing at all?

Have you noticed...?

I agree with you:

What kind of dog I should get is asked by people who have no idea what's involved into owing a dog. People who are a little more serious about getting a dog will ask questions like: I am considering getting a Golden what's your experience etc. At least they have done a little bit of a research and have pin point a size and a type of dog they'd like to have.

Not only do I accept the nose prints in my car windows but they make smile each morning when I go to work!

Have you noticed...?

I agree with you to a point. All dogs shed to a degree-just some a lot less than others %26amp; can be just about allergy free but not totally.

When a new puppy comes to live with a family that pup must be taught the house rules %26amp; regs. %26amp; that includes manners-sit, stay %26amp; the most important command of "come". A dog that is brushed very often 2-3 times a week will not leave hair all around the house %26amp; also will a much cleaner dog.

Cheap?? I don't think so-vet bills for shots, worming, %26amp; general care are not cheap-for a dog to be healthy he needs excercise, teeth brushed(yes, I said brushed), check for fleas %26amp; ticks, keep his nails short %26amp; a nice bath once in a while. Dogs do not need to be bathed very often (they don't have a lot of oils in there skin %26amp; lose the oils every time they are bathed.

Then there's the most important of all-LOVE-ALL dogs give more love than they receive.

Have you noticed...?

I agree with you. I notice people are unrealistic about dogs. There is no healthy and cheap dogs. For my opinion, all dogs are cute anyway.

Have you noticed...?

totally!

Have you noticed...?

We built our house for our dogs, not just us. Hence, we dont care if they shed, as pups have accidents, or are just dogs, laying around the house. Size doesnt matter as we have large dobermans (standard) and Cocker spaniels also. They both shed. And I would not go cheap. I also think both breeds are cute.. I love them.

I believe if you would not go cheap on a house, car, or a dr. Why would you on a living animal.

I hate the cheap part the most. Non shedding I can deal with that is easy... All dogs shed to an extent. My dobermans shed, little black hairs. They get on my business clothes and I change. Most of the time I spend in my pajama's (paint clothes).

(chase the cat across the road? Who my dogs like the bunnies. They love cats they wont chase them. They do chase the bunnies. Never caught one.. thank fully.)

So I agree, I love muddy paw prints... They wash up. and I would never go cheap. If I want a non shedding dog, I would get a hairless. (oh thats a cat).

Have you noticed...?

100% all the way even the cat and mud!

Funny everyone wants cute, well mannered, and smrt kids too but most change their mind once the kid arrives...oh and they all think theirs is cuter than the other (just like pet owners!)

Have you noticed...?

Those people are better off with stuffed toys....

Have you noticed...?

I'm amazed thet there are people who base the type of dog they desire on the size of the poops.

I'm also amazed that there are people who think that owning a smaller dog is easier than owning a large dog. Heck, a dog is a dog, is a dog!
