Help..wood burning tool?

I am making a hair bow with grosgrain ribbon and the instructions say to "heat cut the pieces" does this mean use a wood burning tool? I never used one and not sure if this is what she means.

Thanks

they mean to use an electric knife....the heat will melt some of the ribbon and prevent it from unraveling. you can get an electric knife at most hobby /craft stores

they mean a electric knife. Its a knife that gets hot. A wood burning tool would work too. Just put the ribbon down flat on a block of wood, then cut it.

Without knowing at all what Grosgrain ribbon is, or its properties, I suspect neither a soldering iron, wood burning iron, or heat gun, would do much more than cause damage.

What you didn't detail however, were those properties of the ribbon. It's possible that a heat gun/hair dryer, might work, or even a hot glue gun?

You might find answers in the general search link below?

You might be able to use a wood burning tool, for this... I'd look for one with a wide tip, and adjustable temperature control if possible.

Usually tho, these "heat cut" instructions refer to a 'hot knife' or 'heat cutter'... which uses a heated blade, or literally, a bare wire (which gets got). You can spend as little as $15 for one that looks like a cheese slicer, or a couple of hundred dollars for a production/industrial model. Wherever you bough the ribbon from should have some sort of heat knife/cutter too.

Some of the heavier duty heat knives and cutting tools are used to cut or sculpt foam.

Good Luck
