Cleaning a shag rug?

I just purchased a new shag rug and noticed some shedding, little pieces here and there. Is that normal? And can you vacuum this rug? I'm afraid that the vacuum might pull some the hairs out.

Cleaning a shag rug?

Some shedding is normal. You can vacuum this rug, but only if you can adjust the height of the beater bar. If you vacuum the rug with the beater bar in close contact with the fiber, it will "bloom".

If you notice excessive shedding or bald spots, return the rug to the store immediately. It doesn't happen often, but the rug might have a defective weave.

Good luck!
